Was born in 1996 (Magnitogorsk).

Victoria Bodrova graduated from Saint Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts (faculty of graphics). Therefore, the main direction of her creative activity are various experimental forms of graphics and drawing, their possibilities and relevance in the context of contemporary art . Her search for new ways in the field of drawing began with the training in the workshop of Leonid Tshe. She also participated in the sessions of performative drawing of the art group North-7. She have been taking part in exhibition projects and fairs organized by this creative association for several years, for example, the SHARPPS-7 exhibition, held in 2018 at OVCHARENKO Gallery (WINZAVOD Contemporary Art Center, Moscow).

Viktoria started her creative search with abstract collages, in which she was primarily interested in the question of the ratio of performativity in the creative process and the final result as a work of art. These works can be recognized by the bonding of various fragments and details in conjunction with the drawing, which assumes the interpretive ways, but does not reveal them completely. The dialogue with the viewer according to the suggestive principle is important for artist. The journey of the gaze, the desire to hook this gaze, to engage in a dialogue. One of these artworks was presented at the exhibition “Millennials in Contemporary Russian Art” (The State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg ).

The artist is looking for an opportunity to manifest some new form, following the principle of performativity and improvisation as a way of phenomenological understanding of various phenomena, mostly related to the issues of the body, its boundaries and various transitional states perception. An impulse to search for such a movement in graphics was found during practices in modern dance. Artist has developed a specific graphic language, combining the academic spatial understanding of form, the phenomenology of gaze, rhythmicity and movability of gesture. Here drawing is mostly perceived as the process of growing a new organism in time, with various influences and limitations, as the form of an artifact of a specific historical period, the totality of all rhythms felt in space, passed through the body and transformed into shimmering the image which is on the verge of visibility and disintegration . The artist’s body consumes, perceives, and consequently performs a gesture of a certain character and dynamics. An image, which is partly self-reflective, partly reveals existing forms of social ties, appears interacting with the material through the abstract and reveals also the problems of interaction between the individual and the community, the spatial environment as a whole.

The artist is mostly interested in the search for a liminal sensation, various intermediate and transitional states In creativity. The effect of “fascination” and suspended state, the simultaneous feeling of failure and constant expansion, flowering and pulsation are the distinctive features of the works and conscious guidelines in aesthetic utterance.

Most of the topics revolve around the issues of the position of an individual in the modern world, the perception of its boundaries in space and in relation to other individuals and the environment. In this regard, It is also important for artist to interact delicately with matter, which she perceives as an active component in her practice to identify these subtle images-symbols of modernity.
