Vitaly Pushnitsky was born in 1967 in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). In 1994 he graduated from the State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (the former Academy of Arts), and he studied simultaneously in the private studio of the artist Ivan Gurin. He has been a member of the St. Petersburg Union of Artists since 1994. Pushnitsky has received numerous Art grants (USA) and created public projects for different countries (Russia, India, Denmark, Norway and others). He participated in the 56th Venice Biennale (2015, National Pavilion of Mauritius), the Parallel Programme of the European Biennale of Contemporary Art MANIFESTA 10 (2014, St. Petersburg), the I and II Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art (2005, 2007), the Baltic Biennale (2006), and in a number of prominent international exhibitions. He has had solo exhibitions in the State Russian Museum (2002), the State Hermitage Museum (2006), the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (2012) and the Aslan Chekhoev Novy Museum (2012, 2017, St. Petersburg). His works are in the collections of the State Russian Museum and the National Centre for Contemporary Art, in the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (Moscow), The Ekaterina Cultural Foundation, in the museums of Kaliningrad and Novosibirsk, the Kala Art Institute (San Francisco, USA), the Wooyang Museum of Contemporary Art (Gyeongju, South Korea), in private museums of modern art in Austria, Denmark, Russia, and in a variety of private and corporate collections around the world. In 2011, the publishing house Phaidon included him in the international list of key contemporary artists who define new perspectives in painting. Currently, the artist lives in St. Petersburg.
