Evgeny Gorokhovsky (b. 1951) – is a well-known Moscow artist from the middle generation. He was born in Odessa in an architect family of Edouard Gorokhovsky, who was an important figure in soviet nonconformist art. In 1973 he graduated from the staging faculty of the Moscow Art Theatre School and then worked as a set designer in Novosibirsk. His formation as an artist was in 1970’s surrounded by masters of soviet nonconformist artists such as Ilya Kabakov, Viktor Pivovarov, Eric Bulatov. That was the time when his own artistic style at the interface of photorealistic image and metaphysical conceptual content was formed. Evgeny Gorokhovsky became one of the pioneers of Russian photorealism giving it a philosophical twist. He took part in many exhibitions such as «Hyperrealism. When Reality Becomes an Illusion» (2015, The State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow), «Life, Cause of Forms Creates Living Forms» (2012, Madrid, Spain). The artist lives and works in Moscow and Seville.
