Haim Sokol is an artist and he teaches at the Alexander Rodchenko Moscow School of Photography and Multimedia and is a member of the editorial board of the Moscow Art Magazine. Graduated from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Moscow. He is also a recipient of the professional award “Soratnik” and has been nominated for the “Innovation” prize and the Kandinsky Prize.
Haim Sokol creates works in the installation, sculpture and video genres. He addresses in his work the topic of alienation, isolation and broken ties in the modern world. Working with archival materials and private documents, the artist reveals the history of the XX century through the prism of private destinies, explores the problems of historical memory and the modern socio-political situation.
Haim Sokol’s one-man exhibitions were held at the State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow Museum of Contemporary Art, Fabrika CTI, Stella Art Foundation, M&J Gelman, Triumph and Anna Nova galleries. He has participated in numerous group shows in Russia and abroad, including the 2nd Kiev Biennale (2015), the 1st Indian Biennale at Kochi-Muziris, India (2012), Mediations biennale (Poznan, 2010), the 3rd Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art (2009), II Biennale of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki (2009).
